One day in a life of a student

Each of us has different ways of living of course…but going to school connects most of young people. Everybody knows it…you would like to stay in your nice and sweet bed but clock is ringing and making you wake up. With shut eyes you go to bathroom and you see your tired face. First question is what day is today? Tuesday…oh it’s bad, weekend is still so far. The second question, when the school finishes today? Oh, we have nine hours and we finish at 4 o’clock p.m. You brush your teeth not to have decays and to have a fresh breath? You eat a breakfast and you run to school because it is 10 minutes before start of education. First lesson is chemistry…oh, damn, we write a test and you didn’t learn. You want to look into your exercise book but you haven’t got any notes and that’s why you turn behind you and ask your friend for his exercise book but a teacher see you and he takes your test away because you copied down. Yes, another mark five to your collection. Crrrrrrrrrrrr! Wow, the last lesson finishes and you look forward to doing what you want all afternoon…wait a moment…really all? You must go out with your dog, look after younger sister, wash up and go to grandmother’s place and talk with her for a moment because she lives alone. And then you have really time only for you. You can do sports, play some music instrument, read books or go to the pub with your friends. When boys come home they usually turn on a computer and play games up to the night…it’s not so good for them to spend so much time with computer. It would be better to spend their time with doing something more useful for them or with being with their friends or maybe girlfriend. One good possibility to meet new people and also to learn how to behave to the opposite sex in CR are dance lessons. You can try to wear noble clothes and look smart. You learn basic steps to the most famous dances and at the end of all courses you can use it at big ball which is very popular. You come home after this nerve-wracking day and you notice that tomorrow you will write two tests. It’s too late for you to learn it and you are so tired that you must go to sleep. You put a third question:,, Why I must learn so many things about biology and chemistry when I want to become a lawyer? It’s so inutile for me…I think that in my brain will stay 10 % of all knowledge…so is there any sense in it?” Yeah, we may learn how to study and how to remember many things but sometimes it’s too stressful for us. I think that grammar schools should have more specialization and more opportunities for learning more about what we want to do in future. It’s funny how many philosophical things I think about before sleeping. I must give a rest also to my brain. So, good night!!!

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Nowadays learning languages is very important especially when you want to travel or work abroad. One Czech proverb says:,,How many languages you know, so many times you are a man.”
The knowledge breaks frontiers between people all around the world. You can learn something about new culture; try to live in another mentality. There are new habits, different opinions and convictions, differences in wages for the same work…in UK you can earn four or five times more than in CR.
English is the most influential language in the world. I think that everybody has some knowledge of English vocabulary. Everyday you can hear many English words on TV, you hear English songs in radio, and also when you use a computer.
When you can use some foreign language your life is much easier. You never know when you will need it. Of course there are many disadvantages in learning it. You must give much time to it, it is not so easy to learn hundreds of words, to understand a strange grammar. In spite of having a good memory; you could have problems with quick speaking, dialect or colloquial speaking in the conversation with natives.
How to make it easier? You needn’t learn only from the textbooks, sometimes it is very boring. The best is to have satellite or internet at home. You can watch news, interesting documents. Listening to language from natives and observing them can draw you near their country and life. On internet you can read news or whatever you want in almost all languages. As I said, working with computer is very useful, as almost everything is in English.
It is also good to read some book in original version…you can recognize a real magic of author’s language and many words usually repeat so you must sooner or later keep them in mind. Maybe better than satellite is only visiting of a country and communication with natives.
Learning languages is easier in youth. Your brain is fresh and memory is good and you have more time for learning. I think that this program (EYOLICU) is very good for us. We could be better in English and recognize a life of students in other countries in Europe through reading their internet newspapers or travelling to meetings with them. It is good occasion to compare their lives and preoccupations of youth with them.

DANCE NO DRUGS

Many students of all high schools in our town (includes our high school) could one December day spend by listening of presentation called - Dance no drugs. Because dance and drugs are often hand in hand together. Usually, things like this, sitting and listening to one person speaking is very boring, but this time it was quite funny. We could hear personal stories from people, who have got their own experiences with drugs, we saw short documentary film about people, who want to stop and all two-hour speaking was filled with dancing of dance club – Beat Up – from Brno. It was very long and the chairs were not so comfortable, as they could be but it was not so bad, as it often is (action supported by school).
